Research Resource

By going through the database that is provided at the UT database page, I think under conducting the paper of Wind Up Girl, the Encyclopedia of Global Warming and Climate Change.  In the book of Wind Up Girl, people live in the world under global warming and this database can explain basically everything about the global warming.

As for my major or the path I'm taking, since I'm part of the Pre-dental, I looked up in the part of the Health Science section and found the list of databases.  Going through the list, I prefer the first database that was on the list which is CINAHL Plus with Text.  Even though this database may looks like the simplest one in the list, it has a vast amount of informations that I could just learn through reading.

Watching Doctor Starnge Love

During the film, there was a scene that the Doctor was explaining the effect of radio active of nucler bomb to President of United State. However, that explanations were wrong and it caused for US to have more nuclear bomb testing which would have negative influence on people and the planet we live in. This shows that just a one misunderstanding can trigger the apocalypse. To convey that point, the film has scenes of having a lot different nucler bomb testing. When the audiences are watching, they will think the decision that was made is just wrong. Also the Doctor in this film does not look very bright. He just looks like a mad scientist. Why would people actually believe in him? As I compare to the apocalypse of another text to the film, the texts that I have read was not human made. On contrary, this film's apocalypse is caused by the hands of humankind.

Optional Reading

Hey readers! Sorry for the late update.  It took me a long time to get the book in my hand.  But now it is here.  Anyway, the initial impression that I felt is, "What is going on in this book?"  As our fellow teacher, Mr. Beville, this book start of  just weird.  It is just hard to grasp the information.  However, I also figured out that if I keep reading the book, I would eventually follow how they happened and this is one of the part that grasp the heart of readers.  Because they don't know what is going, they want find out and read on to the next page.  So far, I have figured out that the technology have developed far more than what we have right now.  So that is something good.  But also there is something bad about it.  Thailand holds the highest technology and keeping it to themselves that other country have to send the spy to it.  So I can see that humans have become much more selfish in that time.  This is what I've got so far.  See you at next post.

Optional Reading

As I mentioned from the first post, I m going to read "Wind Up Girl" as an optional reading.
This story take place in 23rd century in Thai land.  Due to global warming, sea level increased and sunk the metropolitan that are place in lower land such as New York.  Also, there are contagious disease for the plants which will make the vegetable we eat inedible.  Thus several companies in the middle U.S.'s bio-company took over the marketplace of vegetable.  However, Thai land have protected from those contagious disease and created a new type of vegetable by controlling the DNA.  To search the secret of the Thai land, bio-comapany have sent an agent to search the detail.  That is the basic setting of this book.  The reasons why I chose this book as my favorite in the list is because every character will have a darkness in their mind, which is very interesting to me and there are a lot of corruption between different countries and the story is written in four different point of views or there are four different main characters in this book.  Also, I prefer science fiction books.

The Road

While reading The Road written by Cormac McCarthy, I have found just depressing.  One of the scene, the man finds the soda machine and got a soda for his son as a treat.  Of course the child liked it very much.  However, the child told to his father that he won't have a chance to drink that soda ever again [23].  Why this sound depressing is because even though he is just a child, he understand how he is in a desperate situation.  In real life, normal child like him should be having tons of sweets and having a happy moment like his father did when he was young.  However, this child cannot enjoy that moment of life and must live in the cruel world.  After this scene, they have spotted the mummied dead everywhere in the city [24]. For  a child in a real world, that kind of scene would been terrifying and will be traumatized.  How ever, the child in the The Road have become used to it and became abnormal.  Even though child should  have a happy life, in this book, that just not happen.

English 102 First Assignment

Hello there, who ever is reading this post.  This is my first blog page and first posting that I made in my life and excited about it!  Just for a little information, my English is second language so bare with my insufficient English.
Now the whole purpose of creating this blog is for my English 102 The Inquiry to the Understanding of The Apocalypse.  The teacher is Mr. Bevill and I am excited about this class.  I fell thankful for Mr. Bevill to give us a chance to create our own blog site so that I can have experience in blogging.
That was a brief information about myself and how I felt about the class I'm going to have for this term.  Now the main purpose of writing this post is to write a review of the optional reading books and those are "Uglies", "Libreation", "The Windup Girl" and "Boneshaker".  I personally prefer reading "The Windup Girl".
That is all and I would be happy if this information would encourage you to read this book even though there are 50 chapters and epilogue.  I am sure I would enjoys this class.
